Announcing location for WPCampus 2024
WPCampus is thrilled to announce our WPCampus 2024 conference location: Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., in the United States.
We have not selected a date for the event. Per event feedback, it will probably take place during our usual timeframe of July. We might also move the event to early August.
If you need to prepare for budget requests, last year's event cost $200 for general admission and $50 for a workshop. We don't foresee a price increase, but we recommend budgeting $250 for general admission and $100 for a workshop, just in case.
We are actively recruiting help to organize the event and select dates. If you want to take part in planning WPCampus 2024, keep reading for more information.
Many thanks to the volunteers who worked on the 2024 Conference Selection Committee. It takes time to assemble and review hosting applications. This team did a great job creating a new selection matrix and put a lot of thought and effort into their work.

Are you someone with a passion for bringing people together? For helping folks learn, grow, and elevate themselves and others?
Are you passionate about bringing WordPress users together to help advance higher education?
Networking, education, and social collaboration can be a powerful thing. WPCampus recognizes the importance of our annual in-person event and the need for more frequent events throughout the year.
We understand the power of community and the importance of presence and engagement. We understand the desire for opportunities to engage, educate, collaborate, learn, and create.
In the past, WPCampus events have run on the passion and vision of Rachel Cherry. Now WPCampus needs a new leader for this role.
We are looking for someone with a vision and a desire to bring our community together because you know what the talented, smart, and kind individuals in this space can do and create together.
WPCampus doesn't have to keep doing the same thing. In this position, you will have the power to bring new ideas to life. As the WPCampus Director of Events, you will also have a seat on the WPCampus Board of Directors and have an influential voice in the organization.
Like all current positions at WPCampus, the Director of Events is an unpaid volunteer position. You can learn more about the scope and responsibilities of the position on the new WPCampus Job Board.

Announcing new WPCampus committees
As of January 2024, the new WPCampus Board of Directors is one year old. This year has been a year to learn and assess. The board has realized that they need to tweak a few things to ensure the success and desired growth of the community.
In the current Board, we have eight members, and four of the members are officers. They are the President, Secretary, Treasurer and Past-President. The officer roles are largely administrative. The non-officer members do not have any specific role or responsibility. We realized this lack of focused responsibility was an issue we wanted to change.
The WPCampus Board is making changes in an effort to provide more focused leadership, where individuals focused on a specific area of responsibility or topic of importance can be empowered to create and foster the community they want to have.
WPCampus has begun to charter standing committees that will focus on a specific area of responsibility, and the chairperson of each of these standing committees will have a seat on the WPCampus Board of Directors.
A standing committee is a committee without a specified end date that meets regularly. Not every committee will be a standing committee; some will be temporary, e.g., a committee to pick the next conference host. Chairs of temporary committees will not have a seat on the Board.
WPCampus has had a few standing committees over the years, but at this point, they have all been on hiatus for quite some time and are considered defunct.
New WPCampus Standing Committees
The WPCampus Events Committee was chartered at last month’s Board meeting.
The remaining standing committees will be chartered at this month’s meeting, which takes place this Friday at 3:30 pm Eastern. WPCampus Board meetings are open to the public. You can subscribe to the job board or join the WPCampus Slack #jobs channel to receive notifications for their postings.

Each committee will need a chairperson to lead its vision and members to help bring it to life. We hope everyone who volunteers for a committee will use the opportunity to bring their ideas to the table and feel ownership of the value they can bring to the community.
Because the chair of each of these committees will become a member of the Board, they will have a direct line to leadership to communicate their ideas and feedback, as well as their struggles and wins.
As each new chairperson is located, the WPCampus Board will grow. The Board will continue to hold the administrative officer roles because 1) they are required by law and 2) instead of a community-specific area of responsibility, the officers will manage the organization’s administrative and business-focused needs.
